Lanyard Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 22, 2026
Lanyard is an open-source service that lets members of the official Lanyard Discord server make their Discord presence available through a public API.
Information Lanyard processes
When you join the official Lanyard Discord server, Lanyard may process information provided by Discord, including:
- Your Discord user ID, username, avatar, and public profile information
- Your online status and active Discord clients
- Your Discord activities and Rich Presence
- Your Spotify activity when it is visible through Discord
- Key/value data that you explicitly submit to Lanyard
How information is used
Lanyard uses this information only to operate its REST and WebSocket APIs.
Your current Discord presence may be publicly accessible through the Lanyard API. This allows you and other developers to display your presence on websites, profiles, dashboards, stream overlays, and similar projects.
Lanyard does not sell your data, use it for advertising, build historical activity profiles, or use it to train machine-learning or artificial-intelligence models.
Data storage
Lanyard temporarily caches your latest Discord profile and presence information so that it can provide its API.
Lanyard is designed to provide current presence information rather than retain a history of your activity. Cached presence information is replaced when Discord sends an update.
Data stored by Lanyard is protected using reasonable security measures, including encryption at rest where applicable.
Key/value data that you explicitly add may be stored until you delete it or request its deletion.
Opting out and deletion
Joining the official Lanyard Discord server enrolls you in the hosted Lanyard service.
You can opt out at any time by leaving the server. When you leave, Lanyard stops processing your Discord presence and removes your data.
If you are unable to leave the Lanyard Discord server for any reason, email lanyard@phin.moe. Please include your Discord user ID so that the request can be processed.
Third parties
Lanyard receives information from Discord and is subject to Discord's own terms and privacy practices.
Information exposed through Lanyard's public API may be accessed and used by third-party websites or applications. Those third parties are responsible for their own privacy practices.
Changes
This policy may be updated when Lanyard's functionality or data practices change. The current version will always be available at this URL.
